After much heated fan debate over who’s the better rapper, I think it’s only right that Jay Electronica and Lupe Fiasco settle this like real MC’s. No beef just battle. It ain’t personal as I sincerely hope they have a mutual respect for each other, but that shouldn’t prevent them from being able to go toe to toe.
Now the industry folk will talk about how will this help their careers and all of that type of blah blah blah, but this is about hip-hop. Both of them I’m sure think they’re the best (respect for each other aside), the only way to prove that is with a battle.
This of course raises the question of how a battle is decided. Typically battles decide very little because fans on either side will claim the winner no matter what. Thankfully though there’s a way to deal with that – SHOWDOWN. You can read more about how it all works in this old post, but let’s get real practical right now.
Hip-hop you have to pressure Jay Electronica and Lupe Fiasco to accept the challenge. The fans demand that they take it to the mic. If you got a blog, write about it. If you’re on Twitter hit them both up about it (@JayElectronica & @wearelasers). Tell them to get at me either on Twitter or here saying they accept the challenge.
After both parties accept (which they will do because they’d be embarassing themselves if they didn’t), both will be sent the same beat (I’d offer up one of my own but I don’t want this to seem self serving in this, so I’m looking for the right producer with the right track for this). The beat will be sent to both of them and they will have one week to record a their battle verses. These verses will be thrown into the SHOWDOWN game and the fans will battle it out for them. All of the results will be tallied and a winner decided.
It’s really that simple. As far as I’m concerned so long as both come with the heat I know they can, there will be no losers. Most importantly hip-hop will win, because hip-hop needs a beef-free battle based soley on the skills of the MC’s and I can’t think of two better MC’s to do that right now than Jay Electronica and Lupe.
Alright, let’s make this happen.
